Wedding Gifts
You’ve done the thing. You’ve rearranged your life to travel across the globe to be present for a week with us. We are so grateful for the gift of your presence. There is one thing you can do that will truly and deeply improve our entire experience, however. Whenever you have a complaint, please do one of two things. Either find a solution or ask someone else (preferably a Dunskey Representative) to help you find one. We care, truly, but we don’t want to spend this precious time together in community chasing customer service issues. It’s all we ask.
Kick-off Happy Hour in Glasgow
For those you coming into Glasgow on August 8th, we’d love to have you join us at The Savings Bank, an event venue about a mile from Blythswood Square. This will be a decidedly casual affair. Just come as you are from your travels or exploration of this great city. We’ll provide small bites from around Scotland and there will be a no-host bar. The address is in the itinerary.
General Attire
This is our number one question. We have added some direction to the itinerary for specific events. The outfits are broken in to three categories: Resort Casual, Resort “Elevated”, and, for the wedding, Semi-Formal. These are broadly defined and open for your interpretation (and Googling). Make sure you pack things that will work for the activities you’ve chosen. The choices for a carriage ride or golf or fishing will be quite distinct.
Take a peak at that Itinerary for specifics. This means the daytime will lean more toward Resort Casual, and most dinners Resort Elevated. Really, Resort Elevated just means your nicest Resort Casual. It’s above Resort Casual, but not Resort Elegant. Collared button-downs and polos are an easy solution for men.
Pro-Tip: What you wore to either the Engagement Party or our Not-A-Wedding party will work! There are photos on the Who’s Coming page as a reminder.
Wedding Attire
The Wedding for Men: Ideally men can wear a suit, but please don’t buy one just for this event. A dress jacket with dress pants and dress shoes will work in place of a suit. Think about a tie, but not required.
The Wedding for Women: Dresses or pant suits are great, leaning longer and more elegant over all. Jewel tones, floral prints, fascinators, wraps…something that makes you feel beautiful and classy.
This is not a black-tie affair, so tuxedos or evening gowns would be too much.
If you think about a party on the Washington Coast, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect weather wise. Plan ahead with layers and options depending on temperature swings. It’s just hard to predict!
Shoes
Surfaces range from antique wood floors, sand, gravel paths, stone, grass, and street.
For Women: Stiletto heels are prohibited always and everywhere. Much of the event is outside, including the wedding if the weather cooperates, so heels in general could be a challenge. Wedges and flats will serve you well. Be sure to plan ahead for outdoor activities you’ve chosen.
For Men: There’s a lot of walking, be comfortable. Loafers, sandals with a strap, sneakers, etc. Runners/trainers are good for fishing/golf/hikes, etc but not so much for dinner.
Electronics
Be sure to bring an adaptor with you to convert from US plugs to UK Type G Outlets. You can buy Amazon’s choice here which includes both plug adapters and USB connections. You do not need to bring an iron or a hair dryer as this will be available at the estate.
Photos & Video
You will be thrilled to hear that our long-time friend and event photographer Rylea Foehl will be joining us for the whole week. You can see her work in the photo albums on this site as she shot both the Engagement Party and last year’s “Not-a-Wedding” party at our house. There will be an additional photographer and videography team with us on the wedding day. You’ll have professionally captured memories to enjoy for years to come. Of course we’ll have thousands of photos that are taken by guests as well. The only time we’ll ask that you not take photos or video is during the ceremony.
Running a Room Tab
Breakfast, brunch, dinners, and snacks are all included, and all meals and beverages on the Wedding Day are covered by the grooms. There will be a couple of times where drinks are provided with a meal, but other times you will be able to run tab on your room for beverages. Your activities and any add-ons you may have selected will be added to this tab as well. That final charge will be settled directly with the estate.
COVID-19 Protocols
Many of us have had it (some twice!) and many still haven’t. Everyone in attendance will be vaccinated, but everyone is still vulnerable. Dunskey Estate has asked us to make a decision to either certain limit services, require staff masking, and increase risk or have daily testing. We are choosing the latter. This mean that each morning before breakfast all guests will be required to take a COVID-19 test. You we welcome to bring your own with you, or for seven pounds per test you can have them provided for you (that’s 35 pounds per person for the week, or roughly $42) and billed to your room tab.
So…what if? The good news is that this plans allows us to quickly identify someone who has COVID-19 and isolate them, allowing the rest of the event to continue. Someone with COVID-19 will not be required to leave the estate. They will be able to stay in there room, and enjoy as many meals outdoors as possible, along with socially distanced outdoor activities. Separate transportation back to Glasgow would be arranged. It can work, but it will be less fun for sure! We highly recommend you mask up during your travels and we will ask you to mask on the shuttle on the way into the estate. This is the most “intimate” part of our time together.
